Once upon a time our society was not run by computers so we didn't need a hundred user names/user ID's and a different complicated password for each and every one of them (many web sites have you answer security questions as well). In the times we live in now we have usernames and passwords for everything. And the annoyance and frustration that these user names/ID's and passwords have created is very real. Think about it; there's email (possibly more than one), your bank, the library (for those of you still read actual books or check them out on another reading device), social media (facebook, twitter, instragram, pininterest), itunes, shopping websites (target, walmart, pick your favorite shopping sites), bills, health insurance, taxes (if you do them yourself and online), your work computer, work email and programs you use (and these of course need to be changed every three months.) And if you're job searching? Double or triple the number above. Because EVERY SINGLE web site for a company you apply to makes you create a user name/ID and password. Until recently I had a two page document of all those user names/ID's and passwords. That list was lost for a time due to the loss of my entire computer so instead I had to either remember them or redo almost all those passwords. In part the convenience and ease of the internet has created the need for all these user names/ID's and passwords but at times, particularly while trying to rermemeber dozens & dozens of user names/ passwords you wonder how this is the best way to interact with the a web site/ or do business... If we're all locked out of being able to pay a bill, access information or resolve our questions because we don't know our password or we have to change it every few months or it's so complex that it's a puzzle to know, is that really what's best in applying for a job, in customer service or taking care of business? THIS IS JUST FRUSTRATING. And thank goodness we've found a way to make conducting business more difficult. Other options have been thrown around as possible in the future; a fingerprint or retina scan for a couple. Who knows what will change in this area in the future but in the meantime wouldn't it be helpful if user names and passwords couldn't be a simpler process or if some other way of getting into a system/ account or identification were possible.
